Liu Che (156-87 B.C.)was born in Pei (in the east of today's Pei County,Jiangsu Province).Known as Emperor Wu of Han,he reigned over the country for 53 years(140-87 B.C.).During his reign,he took a series of measures to centralise the government and economy,turning the Han Dynasty into a powerful empire.Fond of poetry and prose,he has left to the world 8 poems,the most popular of which is The Autumn Wind,an occasional poem written when he was wining and dining his ministers.
